Interactive Contest Enables Public to Vote for Favorite Rising Musicians
MEDUCTIC, Canada - A number of music companies - including SABIAN, Latin Percussion, Toca, Genz Benz, Ovation, Gretsch Drums, Audio-technica, Hercules, Schecter, Gibraltar, Musician's Friend and Harmony-Central.com, have joined forces to sponsor an online talent contest, which will provide a once in a lifetime opportunity for aspiring musicians to ''hit the big stage'' at the 2010 NAMM Show in Anaheim, Calif.
In an era when music is competing with video games, social networking and other outlets for the attention of our youth, this grassroots promotion will help to generate interest in playing music and provide sponsors of the contest a way to attract attention and grow the market.
Individuals, not bands, will compete for a minimum of seven performance spots: drummer, bass player, vocalist, two guitar players and two percussionists. Musicians will upload a video between July 15 and September 15 for voting by the public, which will occur between September 16 and October 15. The top five finalists in each instrument category would then be judged by a celebrity panel. The winners will receive an all expenses paid trip to the 2010 NAMM Show, gear from the sponsoring brands, and the opportunity to perform before a live audience at the show. Karl Perazzo, percussionist with Santana, is confirmed as the music director for the band. The winners are also guaranteed an appearance on a Musician's Friend cover in 2010.
"To perform on a stage at NAMM is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young musicians to showcase their talent in front of an international audience, and we are honored to play a part in helping to foster their musical dreams," said Steve Grecco, director of national accounts, KMC Percussion Division.
A fully integrated online advertising and PR campaign to launch the contest will include promotion on all sponsoring brand Web sites, direct e-blasts, social network sites and video commercials.
