Vero Beach, FL Jun 20, 2009
The Treasure Coast Percussion Camp held its 5th annual summer camp June 18th through June 20th in Vero Beach, FL. The TCPC was established in 2005 to promote the percussive arts and serve young percussionists living in the “Treasure Coast” area of Florida. The TCPC was founded by Brandon Putzke and SABIAN endorser Mike Sammons and is hosted at Vero Beach High School.
Over 40 students were in attendance and had the opportunity to participate in hands-on classes and workshops in a variety of performance genres including: orchestral percussion study, timpani, 2 & 4 mallet keyboard percussion, accessory percussion, Afro-Cuban hand drumming, steel pans, African percussion, All-State preparation, rudiment development, and drum-set. The students also joined together to form a variety of performing ensembles (hand drumming, steel band, keyboard ensemble, and percussion ensemble) as part of the week's events.
Guest Clinicians included Dr. Ken Broadway from the University of Florida and John Bannon, timpanist with the Florida Orchestra. Sponsors for the event included Vic Firth, Yamaha, Remo, and SABIAN. Thanks to all of them for their continued support.
