Barnaby Gold is a sought-after performer and educator in many styles. At 19, he won Australia's only national drumming title (Australia's Best Up & Coming Drummer Competition), moving on to refine his musicianship at the Victorian College of the Arts.
In 2000, Barnaby lived in the United States, studying with some of the major exponents and teachers of New Orleans and New York drumming styles, including Johnny Vidacovich, Shannon Powell, Jason Marsalis, John Riley, Leon Parker, Sam Ulano, and Joe Morello.
As a seasoned freelance drummer, Barnaby has performed with some of Australia's best-known Jazz, Blues, and Pop performers, including Kate Ceberano, Kasey Chambers, Deborah Conway, Shelley Scown, Nina Ferro, Bob Valentine, The Sedergreens, Paul Williamson, Kerri Simpson, Rhonda Burchmore, and Jeff Lang - and has performed in the United States (Eddie Bo, John Boutte, Jonathan Lefcoski, Mike Pellera), Thailand, and Hong Kong.
Barnaby has taught at secondary and tertiary levels for 13 years, including all of Melbourne's major universities. He maintains a busy playing, recording, and teaching schedule.
