The Krum Percussion Department hosted Dr. Brian Zator from Texas A&M Commerce on Thursday, January 31st. Percussion students from both the High School and Middle School attended the event to learn about percussion technique and how to perform in an ensemble setting. The KHS Advanced Percussion Ensemble made up of Wyatt Archer, Zach Ripple, Caylee Thomas, and Skye Troublefield performed Metric Lips by Bela Fleck (arr. Steinquest) and received great feedback on subjects ranging from phrasing to shaping and bringing more excitement to their performance.
Following the group performance, Caylee Thomas performed Mark Ford’s Oakland on solo marimba and Zach Ripple performed A Minute of News by Eugene Novotney on snare drum. The soloists worked with Dr. Zator on presenting their solos with confidence and to maximize the characteristic qualities of each instrument.
The Krum Percussion Department is under the direction of Rich Bono and is located in Krum, Texas.
