Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Colin Van de Reep is currently studying percussion performance at McGill University with professors Aiyun Huang and Fabrice Marandola. Colin got his musical start learning to play snare drum in Scottish pipe bands in Alberta which led to multiple awards and a solo provincial title at the age of 15. Marching band pit percussion was also a part of Colin's early development, competing and traveling with the Calgary Stampede Showband across Canada, the United States and Europe. In the summer of 2009, Colin traveled with the band to compete in the World Championships for Marching Showbands and the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, The Netherlands. In summer 2010, Colin participated in the Banff Centre for the Arts 2010 percussion residency led by Steven Schick. As an honours degree student at McGill, Colin has recorded multiple concerts for the CBC with the Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra and was awarded the Constance Hamilton Memorial Prize.
Congratulations Colin!
