Drummer, percussionist and educator Eduardo Guedes just came back from a series of master classes and private teaching in Switzerland and Germany. At the Swiss Drum Academy in Zürich, Switzerland Eduardo taught a series of master classes about Northeastern Brazilian styles that he adapted for the drum set, which is based on his critically acclaimed book “Brazil for Drum Set –Vol.1, Northeast”. With the great reception for his first time in Switzerland, he will certainly return in 2011.
Directly after, Eduardo hopped over to Berlin, Germany to conduct his drum clinic and continue his private teachings at Drumtrainer Berlin. Being his third return to the school and now officially a part of the faculty, Eduardo brought something special that he calls the “Aktiv” drum clinic. This presents a new concept of clinic teaching in which the audience plays each part on percussion listening to how it is linked to the drum set. Using the traditional Brazilian style of Maracatu and exploring ideas taught to him by the great American Funk master David Garibaldi, he showed the audience how a traditional style can be approached in a contemporary way. At the end, the audience had the opportunity to perform two Maracatu songs on drum set with percussion.
Eduardo will be teaching in his home town of Porto Alegre, Brazil at drum school Bateras Beat in late November 2010. Stay tuned.…more educational news to come!
