The Lancaster Summer
Music Camp was held July 13-19 at Elizabethtown College under the direction of
Grant Moore. This annual camp catering to Jr. High and High School level
students registered over 150 participants in all areas of instrumental and vocal
music. All percussion activities for the camp were organized and directed by
Etown College faculty member James Armstrong with assistants Jim Martin,
Allison Andrews and Katie Santee.
Daily activities included percussion
masterclasses given by Mr. Armstrong along with percussion ensemble and large
ensemble rehearsals. James Armstrong also performed a "Solo Tambor" recital of
traditional Afro-Cuban and Afro-Haitian folkloric music as part of the special
evening concert series. The week concluded with concerts given by each chamber
ensemble, Wind Ensemble and Orchestra.
