Top UK Drummers Joined by Rammstein’s Christoph Schneider
White walls, lights, camera, cymbals, and drummers … ACTION! The latest SABIAN photo shoot happened at Holborn Studios, London, where 9 top UK players were joined by Rammstein’s Christoph Schneider for a day in front of the lens of top photographer Eckie. Along with Christoph, Geoff Dugmore (Major Sessions), Geoff Dunn (Procol Harum, Van Morrison), Karl Brazil (Robbie Williams, James Blunt), Karl VanDen Bossche (Steve Winwood), Ralph Salmins (Major Sessions), Pete Ray Biggin (Incognito), Robin Guy (GMT with Bernie Torme, Bruce Dickinson), Derrick McKenzie (Jamiroquai), Troy Miller (Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson), and Gareth Brown (Lily Allen, Mica Paris) stepped before the flash.
"After shoots in Los Angeles and New York, it’s great to be back in London," said shoot director, SABIAN’s Wayne Blanchard, who along with SABIAN’s Christian Koch, and Jay Lewington of SABIAN’s UK distributor Westside ensured things ran smoothly. "There are some great UK players, and the lads here today are among the very best."
"This is wonderful," said session ace Geoff Dugmore, who arrived with news that he now had forty-four #1 albums to his credit. He had just finished touring with the Kinks’ Ray Davies, was off to Holland for dates with Heather Nova, and had just booked a plane ticket to Japan, to tour – yet again – with mega star Kazawa. "A shoot like this is the only time all of us drummers get to see each other."
Also in Holborn Studios was Rhythm magazine to interview some of the drummers, while Schneider was shot for an upcoming feature in Modern Drummer magazine.
On a break from James Blunt, but busy with Feeder, Leona Lewis, and Robbie Williams, Karl Brazil was impressed at this, his first SABIAN shoot. "Wow, we’ve got a lot of great players here today."
Enjoy a sneak peak (top right) of some of our favorite shots from the day.
