The Marassa Duo (James Armstrong and Nicholas Papador) completed a number ofperformances and clinic/masterclasses in Philadelphia/Eastern Pennsylvania area in October 2008. On October 13, the group performed at the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia. For this performance the group premiered two of its new compositions, Dans Ginen and Voduophidian. This performance was preceded by a pre-concert discussion. Next, the duo gave a clinic/masterclass at Millersville University (Daniel Heslink, host). The group played several signature numbers that best show Marassa Duo’s blending of contemporary chamber music with Afro-Caribbean/Afro-Haitian traditions followed by an in-depth discussion of drumming styles as well as describing the group’s compositional process. Finally, Marassa Duo gave a recital and clinic at Elizabethtown College (Douglas Bomberger, host). The group is currently working on their second commercial recording. The Marassa Duo extends its continued thanks to Vic Firth Inc., SABIAN, Yamaha and Latin Percussion for their support of the group’s project and activities.
