The great Jimmy Cobb passed away on May 24th after a long battle with cancer. Jimmy rose to fame as a member of Miles Davis’ Sextet from 1957 to 1963.
He was a composed, musical performer who’s sensitive style of accompaniment is highlighted on Miles’ 1959 recording ‘Kind of Blue’. His drumming helped make it the most successful album in Jazz history selling more than 5 million copies.
Cobb also played with Cannonball Adderly, Billie Holiday, Pearl Bailey, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, Wes Montgomery, Sarah Vaughan, Bill Evans, Stan Getz, John Coltrane and so many more of the greats.
His musical legacy and our memories of Jimmy are cherished. We’re grateful for his many years of support and offer our condolences to his friends and family.
