IT WORKED...........!!!!!!!!
My wife had purchased some Sabian swag and a Sabian "crisis" kit. At first I thought that the "crisis" kit was a bit of a .... well ..., A WASTE of money, God knows I have two road cases of "crisis" parts for not only a drummer, but for just about every band mates instrument(s.) Nonetheless, I put it in my shoulder bag of "immediate crisis" parts. We took the stage to a huge roaring crowd, and in our set, I used two seperate snare drums, (a piccollo & a ridiculously deep snare, converted from a 14" × 14" rack tom.) I snapped a stick right at the end of the opening song, THAT punctured the batter (on the piccollo,) snare, NO big deal, right, as our next two songs were played on the other snare!! WRONG... My tech "Lefty" looked at me w/a long face stating that he'd left the keys to a locked up road case on the bus.... (his words... "Dude, you're only playing eight tunes, damn, it's only a festival gig..., I didn't think we'd need anything in that case bro!!) For the most part, "Lefty" was right, however, that snare, it's very distinct timbre, and after the swap in the next song, was used on 4 of the remaining songs left, Oiiiyyyy!! Then it hit me... that DAMN "crisis kit"; it had head repair patches in it... I told "Lefty" that, he did his usual magic (despite leaving the case keys behind, A FIRST & ONLY TIME for him,) and was able to get that snare back up and "singing" again...!!! OTHERWISE, I may have had to flip it over to play it... an OPTION that is viable, but most definitely not necessarily a good recommended fix, at all!
The bottom line..., IT would WORK!!! Nowww, the head repair patches, I was and still remain bewildered in it's ability to do so, therefore, a VERY RECOMMENDED ADDITION to a drummers arsenal of "pieces, parts, and weird needed, gig things!!" That Sabian "CRISIS KIT!" 😎🤘🏼 Truly, BK
