Honing his skills through performances with a wide variety of musical groups, while taking lessons from master drum instructor Ho Yat Kwan, Gould won “Best Drummer” in Hong Kong’s Yamaha Asian Beat Band Competition in 2006. He then passed the London Trinity Guildhall Drum Kit Grade 8 Examination with Honors in 2007. After securing these titles, Gould became a full time musician and instructor.
Inspired by the likes of Mike Portnoy and Jimmy “the Rev” Sullivan, Gould joined the Hong Kong metal band Crazimalz in 2008 while continuing to develop his double-pedal kick drum technique. Crazimalz released its first album in the same year (in Hong Kong and Singapore) to critical acclaim.
In 2009, Gould started posting his drum cover videos of metal/rock songs on his Youtube channel. His most popular video, a cover of Avenged Sevenfold’s “Beast And The Harlot” has over a million views, and showcases his excellent technical skills.
Gould now drums for KillerSoap, a British-rock influenced band which won the title of “Global Battle of the Bands Asia Champion”. Gould’s thunderous and inventive drumming perfectly complements the crafty songwriting, intricate dual-rhythm guitar work, and flawless vocal delivery of the group.
More recently, Gould has also joined an experimental percussion group, Junkit, which performs percussion-only pieces on everyday items such as buckets, pipes, and rubbish bins.
With influences ranging from metal, rock, to Latin and jazz, Gould is a versatile and mature musician with a charismatic and unstoppable on-stage presence.
