The Gene Markiewicz Band is comprised of Indiana’s finest jazz musicians and educators. Our performances have included The Jazz Kitchen, The Indianapolis Zoo “Animals and All that Jazz”, Eagle Creek Park Jazz Series, The Taggert Amphitheater, Speedway Jazz on Main, Noblesville Town Square, The Mad Griddle, and The Indianapolis Central Library’s “Hot Jazz for Cool Kids” series.

Gene Markiewicz is one of Indianapolis most established drummers, having performed with many of the area’s finest musicians and organizations. He has performed with The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra, Jim Edison, Al Cobine, The Buselli/ Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, Bill Lancton, Becky Archibald, Steve Robinette, Mark Radway, The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and many other groups and ensembles. He has co-led the award-winning Carter/Markiewicz Jazz Quartet with the late jazz legend Chuck Carter. Currently. Gene also co-led the Farrelly/Markiewicz Jazz Quartet. Currently, he performs with his ensemble The Gene Markiewicz Band! and is a part of an exciting trio featuring pianist Gary Walters, and bassist Peter Hansen. He performs regularly with Bill Lancton and Jimmy Davis in Madison Indiana.

Gene Markiewicz was inducted into the Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame in 2011.

Gene Markiewicz has been an Artist/Clinician for the Ludwig Drum Company since 1999. He is also an Artist/Clinician for Sabian Cymbals, As a jazz educator, has been a judge/educators for the annual Purdue Jazz Festival. He has also been a regular clinician at the Pendleton Heights Jazz competition.

Gene Markiewicz, along with the Speedway Chamber of Commerce, have organized several successful years of Jazz on Main in Speedway, held annually in September.
