Patrick Dykes is the Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director at Spring Woods High School in Houston, TX, where he leads all aspects of the percussion program across both marching and concert bands. His responsibilities include teaching percussion, composing and arranging marching percussion music, conducting percussion ensembles, directing the Symphonic Band, and assisting with the jazz band program.
Mr. Dykes received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Northwestern State University of Louisiana, graduating magna cum laude. He studied percussion extensively under Mr. Kenneth Green and education under the direction of Dr. Greg Handel and Dr. Sharon Joy. He is also an alumnus of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity – Gamma Rho, and one of the founding members of the NSU Percussion Society.
During his time at NSU, Mr. Dykes served as Drum Captain for the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band, performed as principal percussionist with the NSU Wind Symphony, and was featured in the McCutcheon Honors Recital. He also played drum set for the Purple Haze Pep Band and the NSU Jazz Orchestra, and performed in the NSU Percussion Ensemble, Concert Choir, and various jazz combos. Additionally, Mr. Dykes marched in the inaugural year of the Louisiana Stars Drum and Bugle Corps in 2014.
Mr. Dykes is a proud member of the Texas Music Educators Association and remains dedicated to fostering student growth and excellence through his work in music education.
