Bryant

Originally from Northamptonshire, UK, Terl started drumming aged 8, a passion which he largely contributes to his late father.

He writes, “Music was huge for my Dad and I have many great memories of the ways in which he inspired me. One time, aged about 10, we pulled up outside school in the car. My Dad’s music was on loud and then, on the track, there was this great drum break. I remember the immense pleasure we shared rewinding the tape and mimicking the part with imaginary drumsticks. Moments like that change everything."

  • Country: United Kingdom

  • Affiliations: Martin Barre (Jethro Tull), John Paul Jones, Peter Murphy, Barbara Dickson, Iona, Peter Gabriel, Steve Levine and others

DRUMMING SINCE: 1969. Left school to join a band.

BIGGEST INFLUENCE(S): Listening to Paice, Bonham, Blade and Keltner have really helped shape my playing style. But working with John Paul Jones, Steve Levine and Iona helped me find my rhythmic voice.

FAVOURITE ALBUM YOU PLAYED ON: Iona’s ‘Beyond These Shores’ and John Paul Jones’ ‘The Thunderthief’. Peter Murphy’s US No.1 ‘Cuts You Up’.

FAVOURITE ALBUM YOU DIDN’T PLAY ON: The brilliant ‘Black Dub’ by Daniel Lanois.

CAREER HIGHLIGHT: Playing the music of Jethro Tull with legendary Tull guitarist Martin Barre and his band. Working with John Paul Jones (Zeppelin).

FAVOURITE SABIAN CYMBAL: My AA Apollo 22” ride is pure butter, my Omni is gorgeous, the Legacy 18” crash, all the HHXs…. it’s the combinations that do for me.
